Mr. Freelove is a native of Rhode Island were he grew up and went to high school. A life long music lover Mr. Freelove began piano lessons in second grade, and played the tuba through high school.
Deciding to leave the east coast for college, Mr. Freelove attended St. Olaf College, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Music Degree in Instrumental and Vocal Music Education. While at St. Olaf, Mr. Freelove was a member of the St. Olaf Band and Orchestra, as well as the St. Olaf Chapel Choir. He also played football and wrestled while at St. Olaf.
Following graduation from St. Olaf, was employed by the Swanville School District as a music teacher. While in Swanville, he directed the junior and senior high school bands, and choirs. He also directed musicals, and coached football and wrestling.
In the fall of 2000, Mr. Freelove began teaching for Pillager Public Schools. While at Pillager, Mr. Freelove has directed the junior and senior high school bands and choirs, as well as taught elementary classroom music. Under his direction the performance ensembles have grown in size and received numerous superior ratings at state contest. His ensembles have toured to Chicago, New York City, and Nashville Tennessee. Mr. Freelove has also directed several musicals and coached football and wrestling while at Pillager.
Mr. Freelove currently lives in Pillager with his wife Anne, and their two sons. Mr. Freelove is an active performer and continues to perform with the Heartland Symphony, Long Prairie Symphony, Legacy Choral, CLC Community Band, CLC Jazz Ensemble, Hole in the Day Players. Mr. Freelove has served as the choir director for the First Lutheran church in Little Falls, and was recently named director for the Staples Area Women’s Chorus. In his free time Mr. Freelove enjoys studying jiu jitsu, training for triathlons, reading and playing video games. Mr. Freelove is also a devout New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan!!!
